GESY Cyprus: Who Qualifies and How to Register in 2026

GESY is Cyprus's national health system. GP visits are free and other co-payments are capped at €150 a year. UK movers qualify if they work in Cyprus, hold permanent residence such as Category F, or have a UK S1. If you're on a temporary permit and not working, you need private insurance instead.

What is GESY in Cyprus?

GESY (Γενικό Σύστημα Υγείας, the General Healthcare System) is Cyprus's national health insurance system. It launched GP and outpatient specialist care on 1 June 2019 and added hospital inpatient care on 1 June 2020.

Registering an S1 as a UK pensioner

If you receive a UK State Pension, the NHS may fund your Cyprus healthcare through an S1 form. GOV.UK says S1 holders who register with the GHS get healthcare in Cyprus on the same basis as an insured Cypriot citizen.
