What is there to do in Chloraka?

Is Chloraka part of Paphos?

No. Chloraka is a separate community with its own council, even though the built-up area runs straight into Kato Paphos. It shares services with Emba and Lempa in a community cluster.

In 2026 a two-bedroom apartment typically costs €900–1,300 a month and a three-bedroom house €1,400–2,000. That is usually cheaper than an equivalent apartment in Kato Paphos or Universal.

Does Chloraka have a beach?

Chloraka's coast is mostly rocky, with small coves and swimming spots along the seafront path, and some hotel beach areas. For long sandy beaches, most residents drive to Coral Bay (about 15 minutes) or use the beaches in Kato Paphos.

Is Chloraka good for families?

It can be, especially if your children go to Aspire Private British School, about 5 minutes away at the Chloraka end of Tombs of the Kings Avenue. It is close to town for activities and cheaper than Tala. The downside is that most homes are apartments, so if you want a garden, look at Konia, Mesogi or Tala.

Chloraka runs along the coast road north of Kato Paphos, with Kissonerga beyond it. The old village core is on the slope inland; newer apartments and hotels line the coast.

What Chloraka is like to live in

Chloraka is a large village on the coast road about 3 km north of Kato Paphos. There is no clear border: the hotels and apartment blocks of the Tombs of the Kings strip simply carry on into Chloraka. The old village core, with its church and older houses, sits a little inland and uphill, and newer developments fill the land between it and the sea.

It feels more like a suburb than a picture-postcard village. The main road has supermarkets, bakeries, cafés, takeaways and car garages. A seafront path runs past rocky coves towards Kato Paphos, and hotels line parts of the shore. The 2021 census counted 6,422 residents, up a fifth since 2011, which makes Chloraka one of the largest villages in the district.

Chloraka's big advantage is position. Kato Paphos, the Kings Avenue Mall and Paphos town are 5 to 10 minutes away. Coral Bay is about 15 minutes north, and the airport about 25 minutes. Our guide to where to live in Paphos sets Chloraka against the other areas.

Things to do in and around Chloraka

The seafront path is the best of Chloraka. It runs south along the rocky coast towards Kato Paphos, past small coves and swimming spots that locals use from May to October. Take water shoes: the entry is rock, not sand.

Town is 10 minutes away. The harbour, the Archaeological Park and the Tombs of the Kings are a short drive or a 615 bus ride south, and the Kings Avenue Mall (130+ shops and a cinema) is about 8 minutes by car. See our Kato Paphos guide for what is there.

Beaches are a drive north. Coral Bay, with its 500-metre Blue Flag sandy beach, is about 15 minutes up the coast road, and the quieter coves of Kissonerga are closer still.

Local life runs along the main road: bakeries, cafés, takeaways, a Sklavenitis and a Lidl. The village is also home to Akritas Chlorakas football club. The hill village of Tala, with its square and tavernas, is about 15 minutes inland when you want an evening out that feels more Cypriot.

Chloraka rents and property prices in 2026

A two-bedroom apartment in Chloraka typically rents for €900–1,300 a month on a long let, and a three-bedroom house for €1,400–2,000. A one-bed usually costs €650–900. New complexes with pools listed by agencies can ask €2,300 or more for a three-bed.

On the sale side, a snapshot of INDEX.cy listings on 27 September 2026 put the middle half of asking prices in Chloraka for two-bedroom apartments at about €300,000–370,000 (median about €346,000) and three-bedroom houses at about €400,000–850,000.

House prices in Paphos are still rising: the Central Bank of Cyprus index shows Paphos prices up 9.6% year on year in Q2 2026, with apartments up 18.5%, the fastest of any district. Asking prices on portals run well above what buyers actually pay. PwC's analysis of Land Registry data put the average 2025 Paphos transaction at about €230,000 for an apartment and €466,000 for a house.

The price gap with Kato Paphos is the main reason people choose Chloraka. You get a similar apartment for less, often with a communal pool, and you are still 10 minutes from the harbour. The trade-off is fewer things within walking distance.

Is Chloraka safe?

Chloraka is generally safe, like most of Cyprus, but opinions vary more here than in the hill villages. Area-rating sites give it top marks for safety. On expat forums, some people raise concerns about specific streets and older blocks, while long-term residents say it depends on exactly where you are.

The area is mixed. It has holiday apartments, Cypriot family homes, older blocks with cheaper rents, hotels, and newer gated complexes. That mix is why two people can describe Chloraka so differently.

The practical advice is the same as anywhere: visit the specific street in the evening and at the weekend, look at the condition of the block and its communal areas, and ask neighbours before you sign.

Chloraka is often where people land first: a cheap first-year rental, 10 minutes from everything, while they work out whether they are Peyia, Tala or Kato Paphos people. Plenty then stay because the convenience is hard to beat. The complaint you hear most is that it lacks a heart. There is no single square where everyone meets, so your social life will be in Kato Paphos or through clubs.

Who Chloraka suits (and who it doesn't)

Chloraka suits budget-conscious renters and buyers who want to be close to town and the sea. It suits retirees who want shops, pharmacies and the hospital close by without paying seafront Kato Paphos prices. Our best areas for retirees compares it with Peyia and Tala.

It suits families at Aspire Private School, and those who want short drives to after-school clubs in Paphos. Houses with gardens are rarer than in Konia or Mesogi, so see our best areas for families if space matters.

Schools, healthcare and getting around

Schools. Aspire Private British School (ages 4–18) is on Tombs of the Kings Avenue at the Chloraka end, about 5 minutes from the village. The International School of Paphos (ISOP, ages 2½–18, English National Curriculum to A level) is in Anavargos, about 10 minutes away. Healthcare. Paphos General Hospital in Anavargos is about 10 minutes away, and private hospitals in Paphos are 10 to 15 minutes. Chloraka has pharmacies and GP practices. See our GeSY healthcare guide.

Supermarkets. Sklavenitis has a supermarket on Archbishop Makarios Avenue in Chloraka, and Lidl is on Chlorakas Avenue towards Tombs of the Kings. Bakeries, mini-markets and cafés line the main road.

Buses. Routes 607 and 607B link Chloraka with Karavella station in town and continue to Kissonerga and Peyia. Route 615 (Tombs of the Kings to Coral Bay) runs along the coast road every 10–15 minutes by day. A single fare is €2 and a day ticket €6.50.

Driving. Paphos harbour is about 10 minutes, Paphos Airport about 25 minutes and Limassol about 60 minutes via the A6.
